Mangaluru: The Karnataka government has appointed Rahul Ratnam Pandey, a 2018 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Karnataka cadre, as the new Commissioner of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). The appointment takes immediate effect, according to an official government order.
Pandey succeeds Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officer Ravichandra Nayak, who has been transferred to another posting. The change in leadership comes as part of the state government’s latest administrative reshuffle.
IAS officer takes charge at MCC
Before his appointment as MCC Commissioner, Rahul Ratnam Pandey was serving as the Managing Director of the Karnataka State Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (KSMSCL) in Bengaluru. During his tenure, he was associated with overseeing the procurement and supply of medicines, medical equipment and healthcare essentials for government institutions across the state.
Originally from Uttar Pradesh, Pandey belongs to the 2018 batch of the Indian Administrative Service and has served in various administrative roles since joining the Karnataka cadre. His experience in public administration and government management is expected to support the functioning of the city’s civic administration.
Appointment effective immediately
According to the government notification, Pandey has been posted to the vacancy created following the transfer of Ravichandra Nayak. The order states that he will function as the Commissioner of the Mangaluru City Corporation with immediate effect and continue in the role until further orders are issued by the state government.
The appointment places him at the helm of one of Karnataka’s key urban local bodies, responsible for civic administration, public infrastructure, sanitation, waste management, water supply, revenue administration and implementation of various government schemes within the city.
Key responsibilities ahead
As the new MCC Commissioner, Pandey will oversee several ongoing civic initiatives aimed at improving urban infrastructure and public services in Mangaluru. His responsibilities will include monitoring developmental projects, ensuring efficient municipal governance, strengthening service delivery and addressing civic issues affecting residents.
The Commissioner will also be responsible for coordinating with elected representatives, government departments and various stakeholders to ensure the timely implementation of infrastructure and welfare programmes. Effective management of municipal finances, urban planning and public grievance redressal will also form a significant part of his role.
The appointment marks a new administrative chapter for the Mangaluru City Corporation as the civic body continues to focus on infrastructure development and improving essential services for residents.
