Bantwal: Continuous rainfall across Dakshina Kannada district has caused damage to several houses in Bantwal taluk, with heavy showers triggering roof collapses and trees falling on residential buildings. According to official reports, three houses were damaged in separate incidents reported from Tenkabellur, Rayi and Narikombu villages. No loss of life or injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
House roof collapses in Tenkabellur
One of the major incidents was reported from Kagudde in Tenkabellur village, where the roof of a house belonging to Jaya Sapalya collapsed due to incessant rainfall.
The heavy rain is believed to have weakened the structure, resulting in the roof giving way. The collapse caused damage to the house and exposed parts of the residence to the continuing rain.
Fortunately, the occupants escaped unharmed, and no injuries were reported. Local authorities were informed about the incident, and the damage was recorded as part of the district’s monsoon assessment.
Coconut tree falls on house in Rayi village
In another incident, a coconut tree was uprooted due to the strong winds and heavy rainfall at Daddu in Rayi village.
The tree fell on the house of Seethavathi, wife of Vishwanath Poojary, damaging a portion of the residential structure. The impact caused damage to the roof and other sections of the house.
Family members were inside the house when the incident occurred but managed to escape safely. Officials confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries despite the damage caused by the fallen tree.
Residents in the area said continuous rainfall had softened the soil, increasing the risk of trees getting uprooted during strong winds.
Another house damaged in Narikombu
A third weather-related incident was reported at Mogarnadu in Narikombu village, where the house belonging to Prashanth, son of Vasu Sapalya, sustained damage due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions.
Although the exact nature of the damage was not immediately known, officials confirmed that the house was affected by the continuous rain. The incident added to the growing number of weather-related damages reported from different parts of Bantwal taluk during the ongoing monsoon season.
Authorities have been documenting such incidents to assess the extent of losses and facilitate necessary assistance wherever applicable.
Monsoon continues to affect Dakshina Kannada
