In contrast, the South Interior Karnataka (SIK) and North Interior Karnataka (NIK) regions received excess rainfall during the same period. SIK recorded 118 mm of rainfall, 49% above the normal 80 mm, while NIK received 172 mm, 39% more than the usual 124 mm.

Despite the early shortfalls, July shows a promising start. Coastal regions received 365 mm of rainfall from July 1 to July 7, exceeding the normal 255 mm. Malnad districts received 141 mm, slightly above the usual 138 mm. SIK and NIK also reported rainfall above average with 27 mm and 14 mm, respectively.

Overall, Karnataka received an average of 274 mm of rainfall from June 1 to July 7, which is 7% above the normal 257 mm. Notably, Kalmadka in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district recorded the highest rainfall at 150.5 mm in the last 24 hours, followed by Haldipur and other villages in Uttara Kannada district.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre predicts scattered to widespread moderate rains, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations in the Coastal and Malnad districts over the next 24 hours. Moderate rains are also expected in parts of NIK and SIK districts.
