Mangaluru: A holiday has been declared for schools in Dakshina Kannada on June 27, following a Red Alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting very heavy rainfall.

The Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner announced in a press release that all Anganwadis, government, aided, and private primary and high schools in the district will remain closed on June 27, 2024.

This decision responds to the Red Alert from the IMD and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, indicating a high likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall on Thursday.

The District Disaster Management Authority has implemented several precautionary measures to ensure public safety. Areas prone to flooding and landslides have been identified, and necessary precautions are in place. The public and tourists are advised to avoid waterlogged areas, lakes, riverbanks, and seashores.

Fishermen have been instructed not to venture into the sea for fishing activities. Authorities also caution the public to stay away from rivers and streams during this period of heavy rainfall.
