Mangaluru City Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur has announced that “Operation Tiger,” aimed at addressing issues related to street hawkers and street food, will resume on July 29. This decision follows increasing complaints about street vendors in areas such as Kankanady, KSRTC, Attavar, and Mannagudda, which have been causing difficulties for pedestrians and raising health concerns.
During a phone-in program on Wednesday, July 24, at the Mangaluru City Corporation, Mayor Shetty Kannur addressed media queries about the operation. He explained, “Street vendors operating with tents and permanent setups will be evicted. We have designated five vending zones in State Bank, Kavoor, Mannagudda, and Surathkal. We will ensure that street vendors relocate to these areas.” He also noted that there has been local opposition to the Mannagudda vending zone.
The phone-in program also highlighted various concerns from residents, including road conditions, drainage issues, and other municipal matters. The mayor assured that these issues would be addressed alongside the efforts to manage street vending.
The resumption of “Operation Tiger” reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to improving urban infrastructure and public health while balancing the needs of street vendors and the community.
