Puttur: Retired Indian Army veteran Sundar Poojary was accorded a grand and heartfelt welcome on his return to his native village of Palambe. Residents, youth groups and members of various organisations gathered to honour his dedicated service to the nation.
The village celebrated his homecoming with a procession, floral tributes and a felicitation programme, recognising his years of service in the Indian Army. The event reflected the community’s deep respect and gratitude for the sacrifices made by soldiers in safeguarding the nation.
“This honour belongs to Mother India”
Addressing the gathering after being felicitated, Sundar Poojary said the recognition bestowed upon him was not a personal honour but a tribute to the nation.
“The honour you have given me belongs to Bharat Mata. Serving the nation has been the greatest privilege of my life,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to the people of his village for their affection and encouragement, adding that the respect shown to soldiers strengthens their commitment to the country.
Inspires youth to serve the nation
Calling upon the younger generation to embrace patriotism and discipline, Sundar Poojary encouraged them to consider joining the Indian Armed Forces and other uniformed services.
He said serving the nation is one of the noblest responsibilities a citizen can undertake and urged young people to contribute to India’s progress through dedication, integrity and selfless service.
The programme was attended by local leaders, former servicemen, panchayat representatives, members of social organisations and a large number of villagers, who extended their best wishes to the retired soldier.
