The water level in the Netravati River reached 7.9 meters on Tuesday morning due to continuous heavy rainfall in the ghat region. As a result, some low-lying areas are already flooded, including the main road at Ajilamogaru. If the water level continues to rise, there is an imminent danger of more widespread flooding, with river water already encroaching on roads.
In urban areas, most students commute to school by auto-rickshaws and vans. However, students in rural areas along the riverbanks, such as Balthila and Perne, have to walk to school, making their journey perilous in the current conditions.
The Bantwal tahsildar has issued instructions to the CRP and STMC committees of schools at risk of flooding to declare holidays as necessary to ensure the safety of students and staff. This proactive measure aims to prevent any potential harm caused by rising waters and to allow for necessary preparations and evacuations if conditions worsen.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and further updates will be provided as needed. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay alert and follow any evacuation orders or safety guidelines issued by local officials.
