Puttur: The 5th Additional District and Sessions Court, Puttur, has granted anticipatory bail to senior RSS leader Kalladka Dr Prabhakar Bhat in a case related to alleged communal and derogatory remarks against women made during a public event. The order was issued after detailed arguments from all sides were presented before the court.

Case linked to remarks made at Deepotsava event

The case stems from a speech delivered by Dr Bhat on October 20 during a Deepotsava programme at Uppalige. In her complaint, women’s rights activist Eshwari Padmunj alleged that the remarks made were communally provocative and disrespectful towards women.
Following the complaint, Sampya Police Station registered a case and initiated an investigation.

Court hears objections during bail proceedings

Concerned about a possible arrest, Dr Bhat approached the Puttur court seeking anticipatory bail. While the court initially granted interim bail, the hearing for regular anticipatory bail saw public prosecutor Jayanti K Bhat raise objections, arguing against granting permanent relief.

During the proceedings, advocate P K Sateeshan, appearing for the complainant, requested that the complainant be allowed to present her arguments before the court. Accepting the request, the court permitted submissions from both the prosecution and the complainant’s counsel, ensuring a detailed hearing.

Anticipatory bail granted after detailed arguments

After hearing comprehensive arguments from the prosecution, the complainant’s representative, and the defence, the court decided to grant anticipatory bail to Dr Bhat.
Advocate Mahesh Kaje appeared for the accused during the bail proceedings.

The case will continue to be investigated as per legal procedure, even as the anticipatory bail protects Dr Bhat from immediate arrest.
