Mangaluru: A 39-year-old scooter rider died after his two-wheeler collided with a moving truck at Baikampady, near Surathkal, on Monday morning. The victim sustained serious injuries in the accident and later succumbed while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru.
The deceased has been identified as Imtiyaz (39), a resident of Kadike in Haleyangadi.
Accident occurred while travelling to work
According to local sources, Imtiyaz was employed as a driver with a private shipping company. He was travelling on his scooter to the company’s truck office in Panambur for work when the accident occurred on the national highway stretch at Baikampady.
His scooter reportedly collided with a moving truck, throwing him onto the road and leaving him critically injured.
Public rushes injured rider to hospital
Immediately after the accident, members of the public and other motorists rushed to help Imtiyaz. As he was suffering from severe blood loss, he was shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for emergency treatment.
However, despite medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Police seize truck and begin investigation
Personnel from the Mangaluru North (Surathkal) Traffic Police Station visited the accident site and conducted an inspection.
A case has been registered in connection with the incident. Police have seized the truck involved in the collision and are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the accident.
