Moodbidri: Several passengers sustained injuries after a private bus travelling from Karkala to Mangaluru overturned near Bannadka on Saturday evening.
According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while passing through the Bannadka area. The bus subsequently veered off the road and toppled onto its side, causing panic among passengers.
The impact of the mishap left several passengers injured. Local residents and passersby immediately rushed to the spot and assisted in rescuing those trapped inside the overturned vehicle.
Injured shifted to hospital
The injured passengers were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment soon after the accident. Officials said the injuries sustained were not life-threatening, and the condition of the passengers is currently reported to be stable.
Eyewitnesses stated that the accident caused temporary disruption to traffic movement in the area as rescue efforts and vehicle clearance operations were carried out.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of passengers injured in the incident.
Police inspect accident site
Personnel from the Moodbidri police station visited the spot shortly after the incident and conducted an inspection. Police officials gathered preliminary information from eyewitnesses, passengers, and the bus staff as part of the investigation.
The damaged bus was later moved from the roadside to restore smooth traffic movement in the area.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary findings indicate that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, though officials are also expected to examine other factors such as road conditions, vehicle condition, and speed at the time of the mishap.
