Mangaluru: The Department of English at Besant Women’s College, in collaboration with IQAS, is gearing up to host Shakespeare Unplugged—a spirited homage to the enduring brilliance of William Shakespeare. Scheduled for Wednesday at 10am, the event marks both the birth and death anniversaries of the world’s most celebrated playwright.
Organised by the students, the programme promises a captivating journey through the emotional depth and dramatic intensity of Shakespeare’s finest scenes. The lineup includes iconic renditions of the Romeo and Juliet balcony exchange, the chilling witches’ prophecy from Macbeth, the poignant dialogue between Hamlet and Ophelia, and the heart-wrenching bedroom confrontation between Othello and Desdemona.
The event will conclude with a vibrant gala dance that thematically intertwines love, power, destiny, and treachery—the timeless threads that define Shakespeare’s work.
Conceptualised by Gawtham Jyothsna of the English department, the initiative creatively bridges classical theatre and contemporary performance. Through passionate student portrayals, the Bard’s legacy will find fresh expression, ensuring his themes remain relevant for today’s audiences.
