Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader has directed the PWD secretary, along with NHAI and NH officials, to inspect the landslide-affected areas of Charmadi Ghat, Shiradi Ghat, and the Mangaluru-Moodbidri national highway. Speaking to reporters after a meeting with PWD officials, Khader highlighted the severe impact of landslides at Kethikal on the Mangaluru-Moodbidri highway and the dangerous potholes on NH-75.

Khader emphasized the urgency of restoring these roads, especially the stretch from Marnahalli to Sakleshpur on NH-75, to prevent accidents caused by rainwater-filled potholes. He instructed authorities to expedite the restoration work and ensure traffic flow is only restricted in areas with significant damage, coordinating closely with the deputy commissioners of Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu districts.

The speaker stressed the importance of deploying teams every 10km to clear landslide debris and monitoring landslide-prone areas for the next three months. Precautionary measures, such as allowing water flow from hilly terrains to prevent mudslips, were also discussed.

Khader suggested adopting the methods used by northeastern states to prevent landslides and called for the construction of retaining walls in ghat sections to enhance road safety.
