Speaker UT Khader, who represents the Mangaluru constituency, announced that officials will maintain constant communication with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire and emergency teams, and police to respond to any major natural disaster. Khader informed reporters on Sunday that a helpline will be established and an emergency response team will be stationed in the constituency, covering Ullal City Municipal Council (CMC), Someshwar Town Municipal Council (TMC), and Kotekar town panchayat, as these regions are close to the sea and river.
“I have conducted a review meeting with officials to discuss natural disaster preparedness. Though natural disasters are unpredictable, their impacts can be mitigated through effective measures. Hence, people’s representatives and officials should respond immediately to any instances. When the interior parts of the district receive heavy rainfall, rivers on the coast breach the danger mark. As a result, there are possibilities of flooding in areas near the rivers. Hence, I have directed officials to begin temporary relief measures in identified places immediately,” Khader said.
