Mangaluru: Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader has said that the first phase works of providing round-the-clock drinking water supply to his constituency residents has been completed, with the second phase set to begin soon.

Speaking to reporters, he said a water tank with a capacity of 70 lakh liters has been built to supply water to the entire Ullal region. The project, worth Rs 249 crore, was initiated during his tenure as Urban Development Minister and has now been completed. The work of laying pipelines to individual houses is yet to be completed, and Rs 386 crore has been set aside for this purpose.

Khader informed that the Chief Minister would visit the city to inaugurate the completed work under the first phase and to kickstart the second phase. He also mentioned that grants have been allocated for road development, electrification, and education. Additionally, the construction of Abbakka Bhavan and Beary Bhavan will commence soon.

Efforts to prevent sea erosion are also underway, with steps being taken to implement the suggestions of NITK and technical experts, as the requirements differ from area to area. Khader highlighted the need for government funding for maintenance, given the unpredictable nature of the waves.

Temporary measures have ensured no further damage to buildings near the sea, and orders have been given to expedite work in high-risk areas. Efforts to protect Battapadi beach near Ucchila are also planned, with NITK asked to conduct studies, he said.

Khader also highlighted the need to create facilities for a cruise service between Mumbai and Kochi. A plan has been made to develop a tourism beach at Someshwara, and a proposal in this regard has been sent to the state government.

He noted that during his tenure as minister, all types of massage parlors and skill game centers were closed. In contrast, the previous government lacked similar efforts, and he stated that no such centers are currently operating in his constituency.
