Mangaluru: Responding to concerns over accused individuals in criminal cases securing bail in the High Court, Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy announced a dedicated legal team sanctioned by the state government.
This newly formed legal team from the Advocate General’s Office will handle all criminal matters originating within the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate jurisdiction in the Karnataka High Court. “There are plans to soon extend this provision to the entire Dakshina Kannada district police as well,” he added.
An official order dated June 20 confirms the appointment of key legal officers to this team. The appointed law officers include State Public Prosecutor B A Belliappa, State Public Prosecutor–II Vijayakumar Majage, Additional Advocate General Pradeep C S, and Additional Advocate General S Ismail Zabi Ulla. The team is also permitted to seek support from the concerned High Court government pleader for specific cases as needed.
This strategic move comes amid a spike in cases linked to rising communal tensions within Mangaluru city limits. The Director General and Inspector General of Police, Karnataka, had earlier recommended the appointment of specialized legal officers to manage and present these sensitive cases more effectively in the High Court.
Following consultation with the Advocate General, the government has officially constituted this team with the goal of ensuring stronger prosecution and safeguarding public interest in these high-stakes cases.
