The Department of Commerce at St. Agnes College organized an informative awareness programme on the “Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act” on February 24, aimed at educating second and final-year BCom students about workplace safety, legal rights, and redressal mechanisms under the POSH Act.

The session was led by Sharika Rai, Head of the Department at SDM Law College and Centre for PG Studies & Research in Law, Mangaluru. With her extensive experience as the chairperson of the POSH committee and a member of the Yenepoya Ethics Committee, Sharika shared her legal expertise to help students understand the importance of creating safe and ethical work environments.

Throughout the session, Sharika Rai discussed the key provisions of the POSH Act, 2013, emphasizing the significance of workplace safety and the responsibilities of employers. She also highlighted the role of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and shared real-life case studies to give students a clearer understanding of how workplace policies and legal protections work in practice.

The session was engaging, with students actively participating in discussions and seeking clarification on legal aspects. The event was compered by Dersiha Sequeira, while Slavia welcomed the gathering, and Hrithika concluded the session with a vote of thanks.

This valuable session equipped students with essential knowledge about workplace rights, legal compliance, and the actions to take in case of harassment, contributing to a better understanding of ethical behavior and legal frameworks in the workplace.
