The Eco Club of St Aloysius Pre-University College recently organized ‘Eco Week 2024’ to promote ecological consciousness and encourage students to become environmental stewards. Inspired by the Jesuit Universal Apostolic Preference, ‘Care for the Common Home,’ the event featured a variety of activities aimed at fostering sustainability and the conservation of natural resources.
The inauguration of Eco Week 2024 was graced by Shawn Ajay D’Souza, assistant professor at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru. He spoke about the challenges posed by e-waste and the importance of its proper disposal and recycling. Rev Fr Clifford Sequeira, the principal, emphasized the significance of sustainable development and resource conservation in protecting Mother Nature.
The week-long event included workshops, seminars, and hands-on activities focused on environmental issues. Students participated in recycling drives, tree planting, and clean-up campaigns. The college also hosted guest lectures from environmental experts who discussed topics such as climate change, biodiversity, and eco-friendly practices.
In addition, a poster-making competition was held to raise awareness about environmental protection, and an eco-friendly product exhibition showcased innovative sustainable products created by students. These activities aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and proactive engagement in ecological preservation among the students.
Eco Week 2024 not only highlighted the pressing environmental challenges but also empowered students to take tangible actions towards a more sustainable future. The college’s commitment to environmental education and action reflects its dedication to nurturing environmentally conscious leaders of tomorrow.
