B K Imthiyaz, president of the Street Vendors Association, has accused officials of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) of engaging in dictatorial actions under the directives of Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur. Imthiyaz claims that MCC officials conducted operations against street vendors, destroying their property in an inhumane manner, bypassing legal procedures and regulations.

Imthiyaz asserted that these actions were not only harsh but also illegal, as they were based solely on orders from Mayor Shetty Kannur. The Street Vendors Association strongly opposes these evictions, labeling them as violations of the 2014 Street Vendors Act, which protects the rights and livelihoods of street vendors.

The association is demanding accountability and adherence to legal protocols to prevent such incidents from recurring. They emphasize the need for fair treatment and proper implementation of laws designed to safeguard street vendors’ rights.
