Sullia: The Subramanya Police have registered a case against a youth identified as Mokshit following allegations involving a minor girl. The case was registered after the girl’s mother lodged a complaint, prompting police to initiate legal proceedings under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police have begun an investigation into the allegations and are collecting evidence in accordance with legal procedures. As the matter involves a minor, the identity of the survivor has been withheld in compliance with legal provisions protecting children.
Complaint filed by victim’s mother
According to the police complaint, the 15-year-old girl had gone to a friend’s house in Enekallu near Kadaba on July 7.
The complaint states that while she was staying there on the afternoon of July 8, the accused allegedly called her to a location near the residence, where the alleged incident took place.
The complaint further alleges that the accused intimidated the minor after the incident.
The girl returned home on July 9, following which her mother approached the Subramanya Police and lodged a formal complaint seeking legal action.
Police register FIR
Based on the complaint, the Subramanya Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Crime No. 29/2026.
Police have booked the accused under Section 65(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relates to offences involving a girl below 16 years of age, and Section 351(2) of the BNS, pertaining to criminal intimidation.
In addition, the case has been registered under Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which deals with offences against minors.
Officials said the case has been registered based on the allegations contained in the complaint, and the investigation will proceed in accordance with the law.
Investigation underway
Police said they have initiated an investigation to establish the facts surrounding the complaint.
Investigators are expected to record statements from the complainant, witnesses and other persons connected with the case while collecting relevant evidence.
Officials have not disclosed further details as the investigation is in its preliminary stage.
Police reiterated that all cases involving children are handled with confidentiality and in accordance with the provisions of the POCSO Act.
Legal safeguards for minors
Authorities emphasised that the law strictly protects the identity and privacy of children involved in such cases.
The POCSO Act provides a child-friendly legal framework for the investigation and trial of offences involving minors, ensuring that the rights and dignity of children are safeguarded throughout the legal process.
Police also urged the public and media to refrain from sharing any information that could directly or indirectly reveal the identity of the minor.
