The Mangaluru City Police have uncovered a shocking plot behind the murder of 32-year-old Suhas Shetty, revealing that Adil Mehroof, the sibling of the slain Fazil, allegedly offered ₹5 lakh, with ₹3 lakh paid upfront, to a group of men to eliminate Suhas. The motive for the murder stemmed from a previous attack on one of the conspirators by Suhas and his associates.
Mangaluru’s Police Commissioner, Anupam Agrawal, clarified that the crime was primarily driven by vengeance, dismissing any communal or organizational links to the attack. The investigation has resulted in the arrest of eight suspects, with two more individuals identified but still at large. The murder plot had failed twice before, but the third attempt in April succeeded.
Abdul Safwan, who survived a 2023 murder attempt by Suhas, is believed to have orchestrated the murder. After discussing his plans with his associates, he contacted Adil Mehroof to finalize the execution of the crime.
This killing comes nearly two years after Fazil’s murder, which, along with the death of BJP youth leader Praveen Nettaru, had triggered widespread unrest in the coastal region. Fazil’s case is still under investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which has arrested 21 individuals.
Following Suhas’s death, three fresh stabbing cases involving Muslim men have been reported, and police are investigating those incidents.
