District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has mandated a temporary cessation of all earth excavation activities due to heightened landslide risks during the monsoon season. In a meeting with officials on Friday, Rao highlighted the numerous public complaints regarding ongoing excavations and cited tragic incidents where laborers have lost their lives.
Rao stressed that no excavation should be permitted during the monsoon under any circumstances and called for strict enforcement against violators. He underscored the urgency of this directive, given the imminent dangers posed by monsoon-induced landslides.
Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner Anand affirmed the directive, stating, “Excavation for building construction is already stopped in the city.”
The meeting was attended by key officials including deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan, police commissioner Anupam Agarwal, zilla panchayat CEO Dr. Anand, and other representatives.
This directive aims to safeguard lives and prevent further accidents during the vulnerable monsoon period.
