Mangaluru: The Vittal police have arrested a theft accused who had been evading court proceedings for nearly three years and produced him before the court.
The accused has been identified as Rajesh (41), a resident of Belthangady, who was wanted in connection with Crime No. 204/2018 registered at Vittal Police Station under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with theft.
Accused failed to appear before court
According to the police, Rajesh had failed to appear before the competent court during the trial proceedings in the case and had remained absconding for almost three years.
Despite repeated efforts to secure his presence, he allegedly continued to evade the legal process, prompting police to intensify efforts to trace him.
Arrested in Mangaluru
Acting on credible information, a team from Vittal Police Station tracked down the accused in Mangaluru on July 6, 2026.
The operation was carried out by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Jayaram, along with police personnel CPC 2355 Venkatappa and CPC 2462 Shivananda.
Following his arrest, Rajesh was taken into custody and produced before the jurisdictional court.
Remanded to judicial custody
After hearing the matter, the court remanded the accused to judicial custody.
Police said the arrest marks the successful execution of pending legal action against the accused, who had remained out of the reach of law for several years.
The Vittal police reiterated their commitment to tracing absconding accused persons and ensuring that individuals facing criminal charges are brought before the courts to complete the legal process.
