Mangaluru: Three senior citizens were rescued after they were trapped inside a lift at a hotel in Attavar for nearly an hour on Saturday morning. Fire and emergency services personnel responded to a distress call and safely brought the elderly guests out of the lift.

Lift doors fail to open

The three senior citizens, who were visiting the city as part of a tour, were staying at the hotel in Attavar. The incident occurred when they were heading towards the ground floor to check out and leave the hotel.

The lift reportedly reached the ground floor, but the doors became jammed and failed to open. Despite repeated attempts, hotel staff were unable to open the doors and free the occupants.

The senior citizens remained trapped inside the lift for approximately an hour. The prolonged confinement reportedly left them frightened and anxious as efforts to open the doors from outside proved unsuccessful.

Fire personnel rush to rescue

Following the incident, a distress call was made to the Pandeshwar fire station. Fire and emergency services personnel immediately responded and reached the hotel.

After assessing the situation, the personnel worked to open the jammed lift doors. They eventually forced the doors open and safely brought all three senior citizens out of the lift.

The rescue brought relief to the elderly guests, who had been stranded inside the confined space for nearly an hour.

Incident raises safety concerns

The incident highlights the importance of regular inspection and maintenance of lifts in hotels and other buildings, particularly those frequently used by elderly guests and visitors.

Quick intervention by emergency personnel helped ensure that the situation did not result in injuries. The three senior citizens were safely rescued following the response by the fire and emergency services team.

The incident also underlines the need for hotels to have effective emergency response procedures in place for lift failures and other situations that can place guests at risk.
