Mangaluru / Udupi: After a brief lull in weather activity, the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are expected to witness thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall starting Wednesday, according to the meteorological department.

Officials have forecast light rainfall at a few places in Dakshina Kannada district and Udupi district on Tuesday. However, weather conditions are set to become more active from Wednesday onwards, with moderate rainfall likely to continue along the coast through the weekend.

Gusty winds and lightning expected

The meteorological department has indicated that the upcoming spell of rain may be accompanied by gusty winds and lightning, raising the possibility of localised disruptions. Residents in coastal and interior regions have been advised to remain cautious, especially during thunderstorms.

In south interior Karnataka, moderate to fairly widespread rainfall is expected during the same period. Meanwhile, north interior parts of the state are also likely to experience thunderstorms, indicating a broader shift in weather patterns across Karnataka.

Hot and humid conditions persist

Prior to the expected rainfall, coastal districts experienced hot and humid conditions. On Monday, both Mangaluru and Udupi reported cloudy skies in the morning, but no rainfall was recorded.

The humidity levels remained high, contributing to discomfort among residents. Weather experts note that such conditions are typical ahead of pre-monsoon showers, as moisture builds up in the atmosphere.

Rain reported in interior districts

While the coast remained largely dry, light rainfall was recorded in parts of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar, signalling the gradual onset of pre-monsoon activity in the state.

These scattered showers are expected to expand in coverage over the coming days, bringing relief from rising temperatures in several regions.

Temperature details in Mangaluru

In Mangaluru, the maximum temperature on Monday was recorded at 34°C, which is 0.3°C below normal for this time of year. The minimum temperature stood at 26.1°C, about 0.8°C above normal.

Meteorologists suggest that temperatures may dip slightly as rainfall activity increases, although humidity levels are likely to remain high.

Conclusion

The forecast indicates a transition towards more active weather conditions across coastal and interior Karnataka. With thunderstorms, gusty winds, and moderate rainfall expected through the week, residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to lightning and strong winds.
