Mangaluru, Jun 27: In a heartbreaking incident near Rosario Church on Wednesday night, two auto-rickshaw drivers lost their lives due to electrocution after an electricity wire snapped. The victims, Devaraj Gowda (46) from Puttur and Raju Paalya (50) from Hassan, were residing in a rented room near the church.
The incident occurred around 9 pm during a heavy rainstorm. A wire fell from a nearby electricity pole, and Raju, stepping out of his room, came into contact with it and was electrocuted. Hearing his friend’s desperate screams, Devaraj rushed out and attempted to save him using a gunny bag. Tragically, the wet conditions resulted in Devaraj also being electrocuted. Both men died on the spot.
Due to the intense rainfall, the incident went unnoticed until early morning. A case has been registered based on a complaint from Raju’s brother, and an investigation is currently underway.
This tragic event highlights the dangers posed by fallen electrical wires, especially during adverse weather conditions.
