A tragic incident occurred in Ajilamogaru near Mangaluru, where Michael D’Mello, 52, lost his life after accidentally slipping into the Nethravati River while watching his friends fish. The incident took place on June 4, as reported by Michael’s son, Melroy D’Mello from Kulai.

Michael and his friend Sudeep from Kana had gone to Ajilamogaru that evening. While observing others fish with a rod, Michael slipped and fell into the river, which was swollen due to heavy rain, causing strong currents. Despite efforts by Sudeep and others present to rescue him, Michael was swept away by the river. Local residents and emergency services initiated a search operation, and his body was recovered near the bridge on Friday.

An unnatural death report has been filed at the Bantwal Rural police station under the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023.

In another incident, the Ullal police apprehended five individuals, including two minors in conflict with the law, in connection with a theft case. The accused, identified as Shreyas Belthangady, Prithviraj Urva, Thousif Belthangady, and two juveniles, were involved in the theft of over 32 sovereigns of gold worth approximately Rs 15 lakh from the home of Shridhar, 65. The theft was suspected to have occurred between June 8 and June 16. Inspector Balakrishna led the investigation under the guidance of senior officers, resulting in the three adult suspects being remanded in judicial custody, while the minors’ case was forwarded to the Juvenile Justice Board.
