In a heartbreaking incident in Belthangady taluk, Anita, a 17-year-old first-year PUC student from Puduvettu village, tragically ended her life by consuming rat poison. Anita, daughter of Venkatesh, was studying in the Science department at Vani Pre-University College. The incident occurred just four days after her initial attempt at suicide, which left her critically ill. She was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Mangalauru for intensive care but unfortunately passed away on the night of June 3.
Reports suggest that Anita left behind a suicide note, revealing her distress over scoring low marks in the SSLC exams. She expressed feelings of being a burden to her family, which led to her drastic decision.
The community in Belthangady is mourning the loss of Anita, highlighting the urgent need for mental health support among students, particularly those facing academic pressures. This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the mental health challenges young students often endure.
The incident has sparked discussions on the importance of mental health awareness and support systems in educational institutions. It underscores the need for proactive measures to identify and address mental health issues among students, preventing such tragic outcomes in the future.
