Mangaluru – In a significant step toward reviving and promoting the Tulu language, the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy and the Akhila Bharata Tulu Okkuta have jointly launched a campaign aimed at expanding the teaching of Tulu in schools across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
The campaign’s main goal is to increase student enrolment in Tulu language classes and encourage more schools to offer Tulu as a third language option.
A key meeting was held on Friday between Okkuta President A C Bhandari and Tulu Sahitya Academy President Taranath Gatti Kapikad at the Academy’s office, where both parties discussed practical steps to implement the initiative.
The broader vision includes forming a network of Tulu organizations across India and abroad to coordinate strategies for educational inclusion and cultural preservation of the Tulu language—one of the oldest Dravidian tongues, yet not officially recognized in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
The leaders expressed hope that this unified approach will strengthen Tulu identity among younger generations while preserving its rich literary and cultural heritage.
