In a creative push for civic hygiene, the Karavali Sangeetha Kalavidara Okkoota of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi is launching a unique campaign titled ‘Sangeethadondinge Swachhate’ this Sunday in Mangaluru. Speaking to the media, singer Jagadish Shetty Boloor shared that the 17-year-old cultural organisation is deeply involved in both social and artistic initiatives across the coastal region.
The campaign aims to blend music and public service, raising awareness on cleanliness through a musical street-cleaning drive. The event will be held between 7:30 am and 12:00 pm, covering a 1.5 km stretch from Lalbagh to Urwa Grounds. As participants clean the route, they will also perform patriotic tunes, folk anthems (naadageethe), and group songs, creating a vibrant, engaging atmosphere.
Over 100 members of the Okkoota, along with volunteers from diverse walks of life, are expected to participate. The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will support the initiative by providing waste transport vehicles. A valedictory function is planned at Urwa Grounds to conclude the campaign.
Okkoota President Keshava Kanila and advisor Thonse Pushkal Kumar highlighted that the organisation has over 300 active members and has conducted musical outreach programs in orphanages, old age homes, and even prisons. Past events also include ‘Music for Harmony’, multi-lingual poetry gatherings, and tributes to local achievers.
This campaign brings together art and action—turning music into a medium for civic transformation.
