Sullia: Two five-year-old brothers were found dead in a pond near their house at Kadeer in Murulya village under the Bellare police station limits on Saturday in a tragic incident that has left the local community in shock.

According to a complaint filed by Vasantha (41), a resident of Kadeer, he was living with his wife and their two minor sons, both aged five years.

On Saturday afternoon, Vasantha had brought the children home after school. Later in the evening, he and his wife reportedly left the children at home and went to work in a nearby plantation.

Children found missing after parents returned home

After completing the day’s work, Vasantha’s wife returned home and found that the children were missing.

Alarmed by their disappearance, the couple began searching for the boys in and around the house and nearby areas. Family members and local residents also joined the search.

During the search operation, the bodies of the two children were found in a pond located close to their residence.

The discovery plunged the family into grief and sent shockwaves through the village, with residents gathering at the spot after learning about the tragedy.

Suspected accidental drowning

According to the complaint lodged with the police, it is suspected that the two children may have accidentally fallen into the pond while playing and drowned.

Police officials visited the spot and conducted a preliminary inquiry following the incident.

The bodies were later shifted for further procedures, and the exact circumstances leading to the deaths are being investigated.

UDR case registered

Based on the complaint, Bellare Police have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) under UDR No. 22/2026 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Further investigation has been taken up to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The tragic deaths of the twin brothers have cast a pall of gloom over Murulya village, with residents expressing sorrow over the loss of two young lives.

The incident also serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by open water bodies near residential areas and the importance of ensuring adequate safety measures to prevent such accidents involving children.
