Mangaluru: Two accused persons in separate criminal cases, who had been absconding for nearly five years after failing to appear before the court and evading arrest, were traced and apprehended by officers and staff of the Barke Police Station.
The arrested accused have been identified as Abdul Khader Tansip alias Tanji, a resident of Thoudagoli Cross in Naringana village of Bantwal, and Mohammed Raziq, a resident of Kundal House in Kannur, Adyar, Mangaluru. Both were produced before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
Accused wanted in 2021 case arrested
According to police, Abdul Khader Tansip alias Tanji was an accused in Crime No. 18/2021 registered at Barke Police Station for offences punishable under Sections 143, 147, 148, 353, 332 and 504 read with Section 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police said he had failed to appear before the court in connection with the case for nearly five years. Due to his continued absence, the court had issued a warrant for his arrest.
Investigators further revealed that Tanji is also involved in other criminal cases registered at Konaje and Manjeshwar police stations.
Second warrant accused traced and arrested
In a separate case, Mohammed Raziq was booked under Crime No. 17/2021 at Barke Police Station under Sections 143, 147, 148, 353, 332, 506 and 307 read with Section 149 of the IPC.
Like the first accused, Raziq had allegedly remained absconding and failed to appear before the court for nearly five years. Consequently, the court had also issued a warrant against him.
Police records indicate that Raziq is involved in multiple other criminal cases registered at Kankanady, Belthangady, Puttur and Kadri police stations.
Court remands accused to custody
Following sustained efforts to trace the accused, officers of Barke Police Station successfully located and arrested both men. After completing the required legal procedures, police produced them before the court.
The court subsequently remanded both accused to judicial custody.
Police officials said the arrests demonstrate the department’s continued efforts to execute pending warrants and ensure that accused persons facing criminal charges are brought before the court to face legal proceedings.
