In two separate cheque dishonour cases, the courts have convicted and sentenced the accused individuals.

In the first case, the 9th JMFC Court in Mangaluru found Naveen Acharya, the proprietor of V5 Tech Engineering Works in Brahmavar, guilty under CrPC Section 255(2). The court imposed a fine of Rs 3,03,000 on Naveen, with a directive that failure to pay the fine would lead to a three-month prison sentence.

Naveen had issued a cheque for purchasing sports equipment from Prime Sports Company in Mangaluru. However, when the cheque was dishonoured, the company’s owner filed a legal complaint. Following a trial, Judge Dr. Shilpa Byadagi determined that the dishonour was deliberate and handed down the sentence accordingly.

In another case before the Senior Civil Court in Beltangady, Nizamuddin from Charmadi village was convicted for issuing a dishonoured cheque of Rs 1 lakh to Pavan Kumar, a local resident. The court fined Nizamuddin Rs 1,03,000, with Rs 1,02,000 to be paid as compensation. If the fine is not settled, he faces a six-month imprisonment term.
