Mangaluru: Bajpe police have arrested two persons in connection with a house theft reported from the Kenjaru Jokatte area under Bajpe Police Station limits, where gold jewellery and cash worth several lakhs were stolen. Police said they have recovered a substantial portion of the stolen property, including gold ornaments, cash and a scooter used in connection with the crime.

According to police, the theft took place on September 23, 2025, when the house owner, Mohammed Shareef, had gone to Kalavaru to attend a mehendi ceremony of a relative. Taking advantage of his absence, the accused allegedly broke into the locked house during the night and escaped with valuables.

House broken into during family function

Police said the accused targeted the residence after confirming that the occupants were away for a family event. The burglars reportedly gained entry by forcibly breaking open access points and conducted a search inside the house.

They decamped with gold ornaments worth approximately ₹23 lakh and cash amounting to ₹1.25 lakh. The theft came to light after the family returned and found the house ransacked and valuables missing. A complaint was subsequently lodged at the Bajpe Police Station.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 331(3), 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and an investigation was launched.

Key accused identified during probe

During the course of investigation, police gathered technical and local intelligence inputs that led them to identify one of the suspects as Abdul Nasar alias Nasir alias Nachi (31). He is a resident of the Kalavaru area and was staying in a rented house at Jarinagar in Bajpe village at the time of the offence.

Police said the accused fled abroad after committing the theft, apparently to avoid arrest. In response, investigators initiated procedures to track his movements and issued a Look Out Circular (LoC) through appropriate authorities.

The LoC enabled enforcement agencies to flag and intercept the accused based on travel records and immigration alerts.

Look Out Circular helped trace suspect

City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said that Abdul Nasar was traced through the LoC mechanism and brought in for questioning. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to his role in the theft.

He further disclosed the involvement of a second accused — Mayyaddi Imran, a relative of the complainant and a resident of Kalavaru — who was allegedly part of the plan and execution of the burglary. Police said insider knowledge about the family’s movement and the house layout played a role in the crime.

Following this disclosure, police located and arrested the second accused as well.

Stolen property recovered

Based on information provided by the accused, police teams recovered gold ornaments weighing 222 grams, now estimated to be worth around ₹27 lakh based on current market value. Officers also seized ₹20,000 in cash believed to be part of the stolen amount.

In addition, a scooter valued at approximately ₹50,000, suspected to have been used in connection with the offence, was also seized.

Police said efforts are continuing to trace any remaining stolen cash and to verify whether any part of the jewellery had been sold or pledged.

Produced before court, remanded

Both accused were produced before the jurisdictional court after their arrest. The court remanded them to judicial custody. Police said further investigation is under way to complete property recovery, examine financial transactions and document the disposal or movement of stolen items, if any.

Officials added that background verification of the accused and analysis of their communication records are also being carried out to rule out involvement in similar property offences.

Conclusion

The arrests mark a breakthrough in a high-value house theft case that had remained under investigation for several months. Police said coordinated intelligence work and immigration alerts played a key role in tracing the main accused and recovering most of the stolen property.
