Kadaba: Police have registered a case in connection with the alleged illegal transportation of cattle after a pickup vehicle carrying two bulls overturned near Kulkunda during the night of June 13. The incident came to light following an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
According to police, Chandrashekar and Mohan, both residents of Arakalgudu, have been named as the accused in the case. Authorities have alleged that the duo was involved in transporting cattle in violation of applicable regulations.
The pickup vehicle was reportedly carrying two bulls during the night when the accident occurred. Police said the vehicle was travelling beyond Kulkunda when it allegedly failed to negotiate a curve on the road. After the driver applied sudden brakes, the vehicle is said to have gone straight at the bend and overturned.
Bulls allegedly transported under unsafe conditions
Investigators found that the pickup vehicle was carrying two bulls whose legs had allegedly been tied during transportation. Following the accident, the animals were reportedly untied and released from the overturned vehicle.
Police are examining the circumstances under which the cattle were being transported and whether all legal requirements governing cattle movement had been complied with. Officials have indicated that the transportation appeared to have been carried out during late-night hours.
The incident has drawn attention to concerns regarding illegal cattle transportation and the welfare of animals being moved across regions without proper authorisation or adherence to prescribed norms.
Case registered at Subrahmanya police station
Based on the findings of the preliminary inquiry, a case has been registered at the Subrahmanya police station. Police have identified Chandrashekar and Mohan as the individuals allegedly involved in the transportation of the cattle.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the origin and intended destination of the animals, as well as to determine whether additional persons were involved in the incident. Authorities are also verifying documents related to the transportation of the cattle.
Officials have not reported any injuries to the accused in connection with the accident. The condition of the bulls following the incident has also not been officially disclosed.
Earlier cattle-related cases recalled
The latest case has brought renewed focus to previous incidents involving cattle in the region. Police records indicate that cases related to cattle theft had been registered earlier in and around the Subrahmanya temple and math premises.
Law enforcement agencies have been monitoring cattle-related offences in the area and have undertaken investigations whenever complaints have been received. Authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken against individuals found violating laws governing cattle transportation and related activities.
Police have urged the public to report any suspicious movement of cattle or information relating to illegal transportation so that appropriate action can be initiated promptly.
The investigation into the pickup vehicle overturning case is continuing, and further legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the inquiry.
