Uppinangady: A Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus traveling from Dharmasthala to Bengaluru met with an accident late Monday night, leaving thirteen passengers injured, three of them critically.
The incident occurred near Addahole in Shiradi village, along the busy National Highway connecting Mangaluru and Bengaluru. The bus, operated by the Kundapur depot, reportedly lost control and crashed into a road divider located in front of a petrol station.
According to initial reports, the mishap was triggered by a sudden tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The bus veered off its lane and hit the divider with significant impact.
Among the injured, three individuals—including a couple—sustained serious injuries and were immediately shifted to a private hospital in Ujire for advanced treatment. The remaining injured passengers were provided medical care at a hospital in Nelyady.
Local authorities and emergency services reached the scene swiftly to assist with rescue operations. The condition of the critically injured is being closely monitored, while an investigation into the exact cause of the tyre burst and the vehicle’s maintenance status is underway.
The accident disrupted traffic briefly on the highway but was cleared shortly after emergency response teams intervened.
Passengers and officials alike have raised concerns about vehicle safety and the need for regular maintenance checks, especially on long-distance night services.
