Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister U T Khader has directed officials to appoint nodal officers and take time-bound measures to implement the decisions announced at the Karnataka Cabinet meeting held in Mangaluru on September 18.
Khader issued the directions during a meeting with officials at the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner’s office on Monday, September 28, where he reviewed the follow-up action on the projects and decisions related to the district.
He instructed the concerned departments to maintain continuous coordination with the Secretariat to ensure that Cabinet decisions are formally issued as government orders. Officials were also asked to provide information on the progress promptly and begin preparations for implementation as soon as the government orders are issued.
Nodal officers for Cabinet decisions
Khader directed the departments concerned to appoint nodal officers to monitor the implementation of the Cabinet decisions.
He said officials should maintain regular coordination with the Secretariat so that the decisions taken at the Mangaluru Cabinet meeting are converted into government orders without delay.
Once the government orders are issued, departments should immediately prepare detailed action plans and initiate the tender process wherever required.
The minister also emphasised that officials should have complete and clear information about the projects under their respective departments.
Chief Minister D K Shivakumar is expected to visit Dakshina Kannada shortly to review the implementation of the decisions taken at the Cabinet meeting, Khader said.
Kudru island development under PPP model
Reviewing the proposed development of the Kudru islands, Khader said the project would be implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
He directed officials to initiate the tender process for the project and simultaneously take steps to obtain the required Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance.
The minister stressed the need to complete the necessary procedures so that the project can move forward without delay.
The development of the islands is among the projects requiring coordination between various departments and regulatory authorities.
DPR ordered for Airport Road-Maravoor bridge
Khader directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) for key infrastructure projects in the district.

Preparation of the DPR is an important step before the project can move into subsequent stages, including technical assessment, administrative approvals and implementation.
The minister asked officials to ensure that the required groundwork is completed promptly.
State-of-the-art fish market at Ekkur
Khader also directed the PWD to prepare a DPR for a proposed state-of-the-art fish market at Ekkur.
The instruction is part of the follow-up action on infrastructure-related decisions and proposals concerning the district.
Officials have been asked to prepare the required project documentation so that the proposal can progress through the necessary stages.
The minister’s directions covered both new infrastructure projects and works already under implementation.
Jail compound wall work to be expedited
Khader instructed officials to expedite the construction of the compound wall for the jail being built at Balepuni.
He directed the concerned authorities to ensure that the work progresses without unnecessary delay.
The minister also reviewed the proposed development of Mangala Stadium and called for the facility to be upgraded with modern infrastructure and amenities.
For the stadium development, he suggested that experienced agencies with a track record of undertaking stadium projects be contacted and their expertise considered.
Ullal-Kotekar bridge and jetty
Khader further directed officials to coordinate the construction of the new Ullal-Kotekar bridge and the new jetty.
He stressed the importance of coordination between the departments involved so that the projects can be taken forward in a systematic manner.
The directions come as the district administration begins follow-up work on the decisions and development proposals discussed at the Cabinet meeting held in Mangaluru.
