Udupi district’s Superintendent of Police, Arun K, inaugurated the “Crime Prevention Month” program at Narayana Guru Auditorium, Bannanje, on Thursday, December 19. The initiative aimed at increasing public awareness about crime prevention and safety, saw the participation of several notable personalities, including actor Aravind Bolar, model Spoorthi Shetty, Dr. Shruthi Ballal, winner of “Mrs. Earth International Tourism 2024,” and Walter Nandalike, founder of Daijiworld Media.

In his address, SP Arun K highlighted the rising challenges in modern crime, such as cybercrime, online betting, and gambling, and called on the public to cooperate with the police to address these new-age offenses. He also emphasized traditional crimes, like theft and chain snatching, and suggested basic precautions to mitigate them. Moreover, he pointed out the alarming number of fatal accidents in the district, urging residents to take safety measures like wearing helmets and seat belts.

Actor Aravind Bolar spoke about the importance of supporting law enforcement and not fearing the police. He urged people to report crimes and avoid turning a blind eye. Model Spoorthi Shetty addressed issues of inappropriate behavior, stressing that even seemingly minor offenses like teasing or inappropriate comments are criminal acts that can impact mental health.

Dr. Shruthi Ballal discussed the growing addiction issues, particularly among young women, and encouraged healthy coping mechanisms. Walter Nandalike emphasized the importance of raising awareness to prevent crime and create a safer, drug-free Udupi.

The event concluded with a crime awareness poster launch and a detailed discussion on crime prevention methods.
