A state-of-the-art radar surveillance system is poised for implementation in the city, promising stringent enforcement of traffic regulations. Motorists flouting traffic rules will receive violation notices containing evidence of the infraction, including the location and time of occurrence.

Drawing inspiration from advanced systems in Gulf nations, radar cameras will automatically capture images of violations, with notices dispatched to the offenders’ WhatsApp numbers and mobile devices via SMS.

The comprehensive system is designed to detect various infractions, such as signal jumping, helmetless riding, mobile phone usage while driving, triple riding on two-wheelers, and failure to wear seat belts. Additionally, overspeeding motorists will be identified through radar technology.

This cutting-edge traffic control initiative forms part of the second phase of the Smart City project. The initial phase, comprising a command and control center established at a cost of RS 14 crore, with nine crore allocated for operation and maintenance over five years, has paved the way for the current endeavor. The second phase, backed by Rs 19 crore in funding and an additional Rs nine crore for maintenance, will see the installation of ultra-modern radar cameras at 15 strategic locations across the city. Preparatory work, including the erection of poles, is underway at Ballalbagh, Kodialbail, and Besant junctions.

Advancements in Artificial Intelligence and corridor management are central to the ongoing development of the second phase’s command control center. The integration of Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) technologies will facilitate efficient traffic regulation throughout the city.
