Udupi: The Hiriyadka police have registered a case against two undertrials for allegedly attempting to assault and abuse the jailer, the district prison superintendent, and other staff members at the Udupi district prison in Hiriyadka.

Superintendent Siddarama B Patil reported that undertrials Mahamed Ashiq and Mahammed Saklain verbally abused jailer S A Shirola for delaying the pigeon call system, which allows prisoners to communicate with their advocates and families. The undertrials also issued threats to Shirola.

When the prison staff escorted the undertrials, they allegedly pushed the staff, tried to remove the fire extinguisher machine, and entered the kitchen to retrieve large spoons. Saklain reportedly attempted to assault Patil with a wooden chair but was prevented by the staff present.

A case has been filed under IPC Sections 353, 504, 506, and 36. Both suspects are members of the Garuda gang, which was previously involved in a road rage incident during a gang war.
