Mangaluru: Mangalore University’s Nehru Chinthana Kendra, in collaboration with Shri Sai Ashraya, Mangaluru, organised a uniform distribution programme on August 13 for students of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayath Higher Primary School, Urumane, Manjanady.

Chief guest Prof Dayanand Naik, retired political science professor at Mangalore University, along with friends from Shri Sai Ashraya, provided uniforms to all 47 students of the school. The event was attended by Dr Vishwanath T, assistant professor in the department of material science and nodal officer to the school; Abbas, ward member of Manjanady grama panchayath; Vincent Vegas, vice president of the panchayath; headmistress Geetha; and representatives from Nehru Chinthana Kendra, including Pushpa, Dr Nayana, and Sandhya.

Proceedings began with a prayer and the symbolic watering of saplings. Geetha welcomed the gathering, while Lokappa compered the programme. Parents, teachers, students, and local well-wishers were present.

Addressing the gathering, Prof Naik emphasised the importance of parents offering unconditional support to their children and engaging in meaningful conversations to build moral strength. Dr Vishwanath lauded the efforts of Shri Sai Ashraya and Nehru Chinthana Kendra, highlighting Mangalore University’s consistent role in aiding government schools through academic mentoring, infrastructure improvements, and welfare initiatives. He expressed optimism that such partnerships would continue to uplift rural education.

The programme concluded with the distribution of uniforms, bringing smiles to the children and a sense of shared community spirit.
