Mangaluru: Concerns are mounting over the deteriorating condition of the overbridge at Suratkal on the Suratkal-Katipalla connecting road, as motorists continue to risk their lives due to its severe state of disrepair. Despite repeated appeals from the public to both their representatives and local administration, the issue remains unaddressed. The overbridge is plagued with large pits and structural damage, exacerbating the risk to drivers and passengers.
Recent meetings with MP Capt Brijesh Chowta and the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada (DK) highlighted the urgent need for repairs. However, it appears that the instructions issued by these officials have not been acted upon. MP Chowta had specifically directed railway department officials to prioritize the issue, but there has been little to no progress.
The lack of effective response and action from the authorities has left motorists navigating a hazardous route, with the bridge’s condition worsening. The public’s growing frustration is fueled by a perceived lack of seriousness in addressing the safety concerns associated with the overbridge.
Immediate intervention is needed to repair the overbridge and ensure the safety of commuters. The situation calls for prompt and decisive action from both the railway department and local authorities to prevent potential accidents and restore safe travel conditions.
