Mangaluru: Residents around the Maryhill helipad are raising alarm over persistent waterlogging that has turned daily commutes into a challenge—especially for students and the elderly.
The road in the area remains submerged after rain, leaving pedestrians to wade through unsafe conditions. Schoolchildren are particularly at risk, with slippery paths and hidden potholes posing a danger during peak hours.
According to locals, the core issue stems from unscientific dumping of construction debris near the helipad. Without a proper drainage network, rainwater accumulates rapidly, creating large pools of stagnant water on the road.
“This issue has been left unresolved for far too long. It’s dangerous, especially for senior citizens and kids walking to school,” one concerned resident remarked.
The problem is expected to worsen with increasing monsoon activity, and locals are urging the authorities to act immediately. Their key demands include removal of the debris and construction of an effective, long-term drainage solution.
Citizens stress that swift and sustainable measures must be implemented to avoid recurring floods, ensure pedestrian safety, and maintain smooth vehicular movement in the area.
As the rains intensify, the pressure mounts on civic bodies to prevent this civic concern from turning into a full-blown hazard.
