In Mangaluru, a residential area was gripped by fear after a compound wall collapsed due to relentless rainfall, exposing the worsening impact of extreme weather in coastal Karnataka.

The dramatic incident, captured on CCTV, showed the wall giving way under pressure and crashing forcefully onto the adjacent road. The collapse damaged an opposite boundary wall and snapped a nearby electric pole, sparking a sudden short circuit that added to the chaos.

The mishap occurred in a neighborhood that had already been witnessing severe waterlogging and storm-related disruptions. Thankfully, the street was empty at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported. However, the intensity of the fall and the timing of the short circuit added to public alarm.

The CCTV footage visually resembled a sudden burst of water—a torrent of debris—indicating the sheer pressure built up by the continuous downpour. Locals compared the sound and shock to an explosion, emphasizing how the wall’s fall could have been fatal under different circumstances.

With monsoon rains pounding the region, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already issued a red alert for the area. The structural failure has sparked renewed questions over construction safety, drainage systems, and urban planning in older city sectors vulnerable to heavy rains.

Civic authorities have been alerted and are now assessing similar structures in the vicinity for potential collapse risks.
