Beltangady: The Venur police have arrested a warrant accused who had been absconding for the past 13 years after failing to appear before the court in connection with a case registered at the Venur police station in 2012.
The accused has been identified as Srinivas K, also known as Sheenappa and Sheena, aged 43. He was apprehended at Koracharatti in Harapanahalli of Vijayanagara district after remaining out of reach of the authorities for more than a decade.
Arrest in long-pending case
According to the police, Srinivas was wanted in connection with a case registered at the Venur police station in 2012. A warrant had been issued against him after he allegedly failed to appear for court hearings.
Despite the passage of several years, police continued efforts to trace the accused. He had remained absconding for around 13 years before being located in Koracharatti.
Acting on information regarding his whereabouts, the Venur police traced and apprehended Srinivas in Harapanahalli of Vijayanagara district. The arrest has enabled the pending legal proceedings against him to move forward.
Produced before court
Following his arrest, Srinivas was brought before the concerned court. After he was produced before the court, he was remanded to judicial custody.
Police have not disclosed further details regarding the nature of the original case registered against the accused in 2012. However, his arrest brings to an end a 13-year period during which he had remained absent from court proceedings.
Police continue action against absconding accused
The arrest underlines the continued efforts of the police to trace warrant accused and ensure that they are produced before the courts, even in cases where they have remained absconding for several years.
Tracking down accused persons who change locations and remain outside their usual areas can be a challenging task, particularly when warrants remain pending for long periods. In this case, the accused was eventually located in another district and taken into custody.
With Srinivas now remanded to judicial custody, further legal proceedings in connection with the 2012 Venur police station case are expected to continue as per the directions of the court.
