Mangaluru: The humanitarian organisation White Doves has rescued a speech-impaired man who was found living under the Kaikamba flyover on the outskirts of Mangaluru, following a tip-off from a concerned Good Samaritan.
The man, who is believed to have been staying beneath the flyover for several days, was brought to safety after local residents alerted White Doves about his condition.
Rescued after public alert
According to White Doves, a Good Samaritan contacted the organisation after noticing the man living under the flyover without proper shelter or care.
Volunteers reached the location and found that the young man appeared to be affected by polio. He was unable to speak and could only communicate through sounds, although he was able to understand Hindi, suggesting that he may be from North India.
As he could not reveal his identity or personal details, efforts are now underway to establish who he is and trace his family.
White Doves offers shelter and care
The rescued man has been admitted into the care of White Doves, where he will receive food, shelter and medical attention while attempts are made to identify him.
The organisation said that if his name and identity cannot be established immediately, he will be given a temporary name until more information becomes available.
Appeal to help identify him
White Doves has appealed to the public to come forward if they recognise the man or have any information that could help reunite him with his family.
The rescue once again highlights the vital role played by compassionate citizens and voluntary organisations in caring for vulnerable individuals who may be homeless, abandoned or living with disabilities.
