Mangaluru: The Centre for Environmental Studies (CES), Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), conducted a plantation drive on August 26, 2026, as part of the Varsha Mangal Mahotsav, an initiative aimed at planting 45 lakh trees over 45 days.
The campaign, organised by Ankitagram Sewadham Ashram, seeks to promote environmental conservation and contribute towards setting a record for the Longest-Running Tree Plantation Drive.
As part of the initiative, 200 indigenous and regionally suitable trees were planted by about 100 students of Yenepoya Physiotherapy College.
The species planted included Neolamarckia cadamba, Vateria indica, Terminalia arjuna, Pterocarpus marsupium, Dalbergia latifolia, Terminalia catappa, Tabebuia rosea, Swietenia macrophylla, Artocarpus hirsutus, and Cassia javanica.
The plantation drive aimed to strengthen the university’s commitment to environmental conservation while creating awareness among students about the ecological importance of trees, biodiversity, and sustainable campus development.
The active participation of students also highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in protecting and preserving the environment.
Through such initiatives, the Centre for Environmental Studies continues to encourage the university community to actively participate in environmental protection and contribute to building a greener and more sustainable future.
The plantation drive was organized by Dr. Bhagya B. Sharma, Deputy Director, Centre for Environmental Studies and Ms. Nikitha Suvarna, Coordinator – Eco Club, Yenepoya Physiotherapy College.
