Mangaluru: The Centre for Environmental Studies (CES), Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), in collaboration with Anti Pollution Drive Foundation, Plastic Fischer, Robosoft, and Coastal Security Police, organised a beach cleaning drive at Tannirbhavi Beach, Mangaluru, to mark International Coastal Cleanup Day.
Around 90 students and staff from various Yenepoya institutions, including Yenepoya Medical College, Yenepoya Naturopathy & Yogic Science Medical College & Hospital, Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce & Management, Department of Audiology & Speech Language Pathology, and Yenepoya School of Engineering & Technology, participated in the drive.
The volunteers collected plastic waste and other litter from the beach, while the initiative focused on raising awareness about marine pollution, responsible waste management, segregation while cleaning and the need to protect coastal ecosystems. The programme also provided students with an opportunity to participate directly in environmental conservation and understand the impacts of plastic pollution on marine life.
The drive highlighted the importance of sustained community participation and collective action in keeping coastal environments clean and protecting marine ecosystems. The event was coordinated by Dr. Bhagya B. Sharma, Deputy Director, Centre for Environmental Studies.
