The Department of Hospital Administration at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) successfully conducted the Student Onboarding for Administrative Readiness (SOAR-2024) program on November 20, 2024, at its campus.

SOAR-2024 aimed to ease the transition for incoming students by offering an in-depth introduction to healthcare administration while fostering personal and professional growth. The program witnessed active participation from faculty members, distinguished guests, and students.

Key highlights of the event

  • Inspiring Opening Address
    Dr. Maji Jose, Dean of Student Affairs, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the value of collaboration, a friendly campus culture, and the qualities needed for effective leadership in healthcare administration.
  • Crystal Anniversary Celebration
    The event also celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Department of Hospital Administration. Dr. Sunita Saldanha, Head of the Department and Dean of the Yenepoya School of Allied and Healthcare Professions, presented a retrospective on the department’s achievements. To commemorate the milestone, a special anniversary logo was unveiled.
  • Student Committee Installation
    The newly elected Student Committee members were formally installed, with badges symbolising their commitment to enhancing student welfare and embodying the department’s values.

Enriching Academic Sessions

SOAR-2024 featured thought-provoking talks by eminent faculty members, enriching students’ understanding of healthcare administration:

  • Dr. Ravi Vaswani, Professor in General Medicine and Joint Secretary of Yenepoya Ethics Committee-1, spoke on “Humanity in Healthcare.”
  • Dr. Rashmi Jain, Professor in Ophthalmology and Medical Education Unit Coordinator, discussed “Lost in Translation: Miscommunication and Mishaps in Hospitals.”
  • Dr. Sunita Saldanha, Dean of Allied and Healthcare Professions, shared insights in her session, “Navigating the Healthcare Maze.”
