Mangaluru: The Department of Hospitality Science at Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce & Management (YIASCM) inaugurated its Student Board and subsequently celebrated Fresher’s Day on August 10 at the B Block Auditorium, YIASCM Balmatta.

Shiju M. Nambiar, General Manager of Vivanta Mangalore, Old Port Road, Mangalore, was the chief guest for the program. Dr. Arun Bhagwath, Principal of Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management (YIASCM); Mervin Jaison Vas, Head of the Department of Hospitality Science; Lakshmi B.M., Faculty Coordinator of the Department Student Board; Teymour Sulthan Abdulhameed, President; and Mohammed Ashique, Secretary of the Student Board, Department of Hospitality Science, were present on the dais. The event began with a prayer seeking the blessings of the Almighty. The program was inaugurated by the chief guest with the lighting of the lamp, accompanied by all the dignitaries.

Jennifer Roberts took over the stage to conduct the installation ceremony of the Student Board. The guest honored the office bearers with badges. Department Head Mervin Jaison Vas administered the oath ceremony.

Certificates of recognition and appreciation were distributed to the students of the department for their achievements and talents in various domains during the past year.

Chief Guest Shiju M. Nambiar spoke on the occasion and encouraged all students to be happy and share that happiness with everyone they meet. He also enriched the students with his own life experiences in the hospitality sector and the growth he has achieved, emphasizing that all students have the same opportunities. He urged them to utilize every opportunity they receive and to seek out training.

Dr. Arun Bhagwath, Principal and Dean, Faculty of Science, delivered the presidential address, congratulating all the newly elected office bearers and wishing them success in their careers. He also emphasized the vast opportunities available to students in the service sector.

Fathima Fitha, V BBA (HATT), welcomed the gathering, and Gina Maryam, I BSc Hospitality Management, proposed a vote of thanks. Maimunath Beebi and Meeralal compered the program.

The formal program concluded with the national anthem. The Fresher’s Day further entered into its main joyous stage, showcasing various cultural extravaganzas, especially the fashion show, with Mr. and Miss Fresher 2024. It was truly a mesmerizing talent exhibition.

Mr. Leo Biju and Ms. Gina Mariyam won the titles of Mr. Fresher and Miss Fresher 2024 in the Department of Hospitality Science.

A sumptuous meal was served to add more flavor to the program.
