Mangaluru: In the ever-evolving landscape of Indian sports, where young athletes are increasingly making an impact at national-level competitions, 12-year-old Aadhya Suman Devadiga has emerged as one of the most promising names in Indian field archery. Originally from Mangaluru and currently residing in Marol, Andheri East in Mumbai with her family, Aadhya has made an extraordinary rise in the sport within a remarkably short span of time.
Born to Suman Devadiga Kanwatheertha and Kshama Suman Devadiga Padil, Aadhya is a student of Bombay Cambridge International School and has recently completed her seventh grade. What makes her story particularly remarkable is that she only began her archery journey in September 2024 and has already established herself as a strong contender in district, state and national competitions.
Rapid rise in field archery
Representing Sagittarius Sports Club and training under the guidance of coach Vinayak Nair, Aadhya’s progress has drawn attention within the sporting community.
Within just months of taking up archery, she began achieving success at multiple levels of competition. Her rapid growth has been defined not only by the medals and trophies she has secured but also by her discipline, consistency and dedication to training.
Her journey reflects a combination of talent and commitment that is rare among athletes of her age group. Coaches and supporters have noted her determination and ability to adapt quickly to competitive environments.
Impressive beginning in competitive events
Aadhya first picked up a bow on September 3, 2024. During the 2024–25 season alone, she earned an impressive total of 22 medals and trophies.
Among her notable achievements during the initial phase of her sporting career were a second-place finish in the District Indoor Championship in the Under-14 Girls category and several first-place victories at DSO District Indoor and Outdoor Championships.
She also won two silver medals at the DSO Division-Level Indoor Championship and received recognition as the Top Archer in demonstration events at Sagittarius Sports Club.
Her performances at state-level events further strengthened her reputation as an emerging talent. She secured two silver medals at the State Indoor Championships and added three gold medals at the Prabodhan Kridha State Outdoor Championship.
Strong performances at national level
Aadhya’s success soon extended beyond district and state competitions as she made a strong impact at national-level events.
At the National Indoor Championship 2024–25, she captured an individual gold medal and a team bronze medal, establishing herself among the country’s promising young archers.
She later won a silver medal at the National E-Championship in the Under-14 Girls category and secured the Overall Gold Trophy at the Outdoor National Competition.
Her growing achievements also earned her a National Gold Award from Magnum Opus and the IEO Olympiad.
These accomplishments highlighted her ability to compete at increasingly higher levels and maintain consistency despite her relatively short experience in the sport.
Successful run continues in 2026
The year 2026 marked another important phase in Aadhya’s journey with more national-level success.
During the National Field Archery Competition held in Alibaug, Maharashtra, from January 21 to 27, she won one gold medal, two silver medals and one bronze medal.
Her performance reinforced her position among India’s leading young field archers.
In April 2026, she continued her strong run by winning two silver medals at the 7th FAAI National E-Championship in both the Under-14 Girls and Under-17 categories.
Competing successfully against older participants highlighted her ability and maturity as a young athlete.
Prestigious national title strengthens her future
A defining moment in her career came during the 12th National Field Archery Championship conducted in Palghar, Maharashtra, from May 16 to 19, 2026.
Competing in the Cubs Girls category, Aadhya delivered an outstanding performance to secure first place overall and lift the prestigious Gold Trophy.
The championship was organised by the Field Archery Association of Maharashtra under the Field Archery Association of India (FAAI).
With a rapidly growing list of achievements and a strong foundation already built at a young age, Aadhya is now focused on the next stage of her sporting journey.
Her ambition is to represent India at the 2028 Olympic Games and bring laurels to the country. Supported by her family, coach and continuous training efforts, the young archer’s journey continues to inspire many aspiring sportspersons.
Her story stands as an example of how determination, disciplined practice and family support can shape extraordinary success at an early age.
